Fostering a puppy is not just about the snuggles and playtime (although there's plenty of that!).
Fostering a puppy means providing a safe and loving temporary home for them until they find their forever families.
It's a chance to shower them with love, help them build confidence, and prepare them for their forever homes.
No Dogs Left Behind is ALWAYS looking for more FOSTERS...you may want to foster because you are driven to foster animals to save a life or driven to volunteer, some foster because you are looking for a new family pet.
You can choose what kind of puppy you would like to foster. We work with each foster individually to ensure a best fit. Want an older dog, we often have mama dogs and those that are undergoing medical care that need love too!
We provide you with everything you need! We provide food, bowls, food, toys, cages, and of course all vetting or anything else the dog may need.
If it wasn’t for fosters we would be unable to save lives!
We now offer weekend and field trip foster opportunities! The best thing about a foster puppy is that they have had a chance to be socialized.
Have a weekend open? What better time than to welcome a puppy into your home! Looking for puppy love, but only have a day to commit? That's okay too!
Take the puppy to the cider mill, enjoy the day in the yard, head out for a pup cup! The goal - have fun!!
We want this to be a positive experience and we know that it can be scary to commit to a foster experience. This is a great way to get started!
Unconditional Love: Experience the joy of companionship and wagging tails. There is nothing better than puppy breath and the snuggles that our foster pups can give.
Positive Impact: Give a homeless pup a fresh start in life by keeping them out of a shelter and providing them with the knowledge of living in a home.
Flexible Commitment: Whether short-term or long-term, every bit helps. The initial commitment is two weeks while your pup gets acclimated. This allows us time to learn about the temperament of the pup, administer necessary vaccines, and to ensure their health before adopting them out.
Learn & Grow: Teach them, watch them flourish - it's a rewarding journey. Treat these pups just as you would your own.
Please reach us at if you cannot find an answer to your question.
The typical foster set is two. However, we do often have a need for single home fosters and larger litters.
2-4 weeks is the typical commitment for fostering. But it is important to know that each fostering situation is unique.
A loving home! We provide you with everything you need to be a success. We just ask that you provide the love and care until the pups find a home.
Unfortunately, no. The reason for this is that we are often looking for fosters BEFORE we actually say yes to the pups. This is because we do not have the space to keep several litters of dogs within our home (we sure wish we did!).
We often obtain our puppies from kill shelters. But, we also help when we can locally. We have several relationships with shelters across the US and throughout Michigan.
Sadly, this often means that we have to turn away some of the pups. We do our best to say YES to all of them, but without fosters, we simply cannot.
No Dogs Left Behind sends you home with everything you need to be a successful foster. We provide food, puppy pads, toys, etc. If there is something you need, just ask!
Absolutely! Most of our fosters have full-time jobs outside of the home. That does not disqualify you from fostering.
YES! Even a few days is a huge help! We want to be sure these pups are socialized and saved. So, anytime is better than no time at all!
We understand the anxiety and want this to be as stress-free for you as possible. We are always here to answer your questions. Being a foster parent is supposed to be fun. We just ask that you treat these sweet pups as you would your own. They want to be loved. Have fun with them, take them on outings, and socialize them with your family, friends, and pets. They love the attention.
It's not an IF, you WILL fall in love. But, as a foster parent, you remember that your time with these pups is geared toward preparing them for the family that is going to love them just as much as you do. You will help to prepare this dog for their family while teaching them how to be a great family dog through your day-to-day lifestyle. And if you decide you want to adopt, you can do that too! We promise that the more you foster, the easier it is because you will see just how much happiness YOU are also bringing to a new adoptive family.
We have the answers. Call, text, email, or message us anytime!
